[Team Building] How to Train your Dragon
#1
Hi, all :)

If you've come here, I recommend you to leave immediately as statistics from the Creepers' Dragon Slaying Co. show that building a dragon deck results in losing 90% of the fun in ToS.

Not leaving? Fine. Prepare to meet the one of the most broken decks ever:

Oh, wait. Wrong one.

DRAGONS

Table of Contents

1. Introduction
2. Useful Cards
3. Sample Teams
4. NM Strategies

Pros:
  • You can beat most, if not all, of the game.
  • Insane survivability, by simply changing the combination of leader and ally, you can have all the HP or RCR you'll ever need!
  • Fancy ways to heal.
  • TC limit? What's that?
  • MDs. 'Nuff said.

Cons:
  • Often a little grindy.
  • Only one way to burst.
  • Best and core cards are diamond seal exclusives.
  • Makes the game too easy.
  • Little synergy among most dragons.

Why a FOURTH dragon deck guide?!?!

Useful Cards
Core:

[Image: uu0RYxf.jpg] Dragoness - Ursula

HP: 3208 | ATK: 1071 | RCR: 112 | TC: 10
A1: +90 ATK | A2: +10% ATK column (3) | A3: +500 HP | A4: +10% ATK column (4)
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Dragon's Spirit (Lv 15, CD 8)
For two turns, all dragons in deck will have the same ATK as the dragon that has the highest damage in each turn.
Leader: Dragon King's Blood
2× dragon ATK. Heal player's HP by 5% of damage inflicted every turn, capped at 50% of total HP. Damage from active skills will not trigger this effect.
Source: Diamond Seal

If you don't have this card, forget about building a dragon deck. Pairs very well with Novalis (see below) to provide you with the only burst you have. A couple may be needed for certain battles. She is also sometimes used as leader when you use Nidhogg (because your RCR would've gone down the drain).

[Image: TtHjp3G.jpg] Dragon Follower - Novalis
HP: 3082 | ATK: 1155 | RCR: 102 | TC: 10
A1: +90 ATK | A2: +10% ATK column (3) | A3: +500 HP | A4: +10% ATK column (4)
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Dragon's Summon - Dark (Lv 10, CD 10)
This card's base ATK is increased to the sum of the base ATK stat of all dragons in team but all dragons will have a base ATK stat of 0. This is in effect until reactivation or player's death.
Leader: Emerging of the Dragon
1.5× dragon ATK, increased to 3× if six or more connected on-color runes are dissolved.
Source: Diamond Seal

An extremely important card. Without Novalis, you can't burst with a dragon deck so it means you'll be slow and difficult bosses will kill you. Without this card you shouldn't bother playing dragons.

Leaders:
[Image: 4FjHRUE.jpg] Faugn the Dread Devourer

HP: 3373 | ATK: 1308 | RCR: 120 | TC: 15
A1: +90 ATK | A2: Initial CD -2 | A3: +500 HP | A4: +25% heart drop
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Dark Impact + (Lv 12, CD 10)
Deal 15000 dark damage to all enemies, ignores DEF.
Leader: Amulet of Dragon
2× dragon ATK and +200 dragon base RCR. Dissolving heart runes give 50% dark ATK.
Source: Diamond Seal

One of the most important cards. As long as you can take a hit from the enemy, dying is difficult. Can be paired with another Faugn ally, Dagon ally or even Daji ally. With this leader, Novalis gets a passive ATK boost while you can free up a slot as you don't need Evil Gargoyle to get you dark runes in a pinch. Also useful to take out high DEF mobs.

[Image: hDk7d7d.jpg] Dagon the Deep Dictator
HP: 3618 | ATK: 1190 | RCR: 129 | TC: 15
A1: +90 ATK | A2: Initial CD -1 | A3: +500 HP | A4: +25% heart drop
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Defense Mode - Water (Lv 10, CD 5)
Convert fire runes to hearts.
Leader: Prestige of Dragon
2× dragon ATK. RCR value is added to ATK. One heart rune heals player by 2% of lost HP for each dragon in team, healing effect is unstackable.
Source: Diamond Seal

Sometimes, you gotta need HP. When you need HP, 200 RCR ain't gonna heal you back enough. That's when you use this guy. Also have a passive ATK boost with Ursula. Can be used as a sub in Faugn decks too to generate hearts.

[Image: 8aUtCWm.jpg] Nidhogg the Lord of Undead
HP: 6840 | ATK: 1711 | RCR: 0 | TC: 40
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Rebirth of Dragon (Lv 15, CD 10)
Heal player's HP by the sum of base RCR of dragons in team.
Leader: Alley of Blood
2× dragon HP and 3× dragon ATK. -10% of player's total HP every turn.
Source: The Devourer of Absoluteness boss

For some stages, you'll have to take a lot of damage and save your bursts for another wave. That's when Nidhogg comes in handy. He doubles your HP and still give you triple ATK. However, with 2× HP, Faugn's +200 RCR won't do much so you've gotta bring the old golem out of the trash can if you're using Nidhogg.

[Image: VJwKR43.jpg] Archimandrite of Water
HP: 3575 | ATK: 1123 | RCR: 80 | TC: 14
A1: +180 HP | A2: Column enchant | A3: +500 HP | A4: Column convert
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Fight Mode - Water (Lv 10, CD 5)
Convert hearts to water runes.
Leader: Howling Dragon
2.5× dragon ATK and +200 dragon base ATK.
Source: Glacial Iceberg rare spawn, Friend Point Seal, Diamond Seal

Something you won't use often. Maybe only if you want to speed farm a fire stage with mono water dragons.

[Image: ZE0myNl.jpg] Tulzscha the Radiant Overseer
HP: 3697 | ATK: 1108 | RCR: 133 | TC: 15
A1: +90 ATK | A2: Initial CD -2 | A3: +500 HP | A4: +25% heart drop
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Light Shock +
Deal 15000 light damage to all enemies, ignores DEF.
Leader: Pulse of Dragons
2.5× dragon ATK and +200 dragon base RCR.
Source: Diamond Seal

If you don't have Faugn, this guy works but you'll need Gargoyle Golem too.

[Image: tkZ33j4.jpg] Protometallic Dragon Uranus
HP: 5299 | ATK: 1424 | RCR: 39 | TC: 20
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Artillery (Lv 15, CD 6)
Deal 50× self ATK as non-elemental damage to all enemies.
Leader: Deadly Hit
30% chance for 7× team ATK. Chance increases to 50% at <10% HP.
Source: The Ancient Dragon wave 7 invades

#YOLOSWAG

Subs:
[Image: Yo5WfPc.jpg] Evil Gargoyle Golem

HP: 2420 | ATK: 831 | RCR: 20 | TC: 10
A1: +90 ATK | A2: Column enchant | A3: +500 HP | A4: Initial CD -3
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆
Active: The Shift - Dark (Lv 10, CD 5)
Convert light runes to dark runes.
Leader: Dark Counterattack
Deal dark damage equal to damage received to all enemies when player is attacked.
Source: Diamond Seal

You must have this for any dragon deck except for Faugn decks. As you need Novalis for bursting, you'll need dark runes. This golem is, unfortunately, the only dragon dark converter.

[Image: 5SiYXbn.jpg] Chernabog
HP: 3597 | ATK: 1130 | RCR: 34 | TC: 20
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Runestone Symphony - Dragon (Lv 12, CD 12)
For two turns, 2× dragon ATK if runes of three different attributes are matched.
Leader: Dragon Fury
2.5× dragon ATK.
Source: Soul Feast of the Demon boss

One of the best subs for dragon decks. It makes your burst even stronger, and also lasts for two turns just like Ursula's active. It is hard to get though since it is region-exclusive.

[Image: MjZHFIg.jpg] Cthugha the Fierce Heritor
HP: 3625 | ATK: 1273 | RCR: 115 | TC: 15
A1: +90 ATK | A2: Initial CD -1 | A3: +500 HP | A4: +25% heart drop
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Defense Mode - Fire (Lv 10, CD 5)
Convert earth runes to hearts.
Leader: Prestige of Dragon
2× dragon ATK. RCR value is added to ATK. One heart rune heals player by 2% of lost HP for each dragon in team, healing effect is unstackable.
Source: Diamond Seal

Use as leader in replacement of Dagon only if you don't have him. You'll lose out on the passive ATK boost. However, as a sub, he works really well. He generates hearts that can be used for survival or for bursting in a Faugn deck.

[Image: 40IqBbV.jpg] Byakhee the Cosmic Berserker
HP: 3984 | ATK: 1096 | RCR: 121 | TC: 15
A1: +90 ATK | A2: Initial CD -1 | A3: +500 HP | A4: +25% heart drop
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Defense Mode - Earth (Lv 10, CD 5)
Convert water runes to earth.
Leader: Prestige of Dragon
2× dragon ATK. RCR value is added to ATK. One heart rune heals player by 2% of lost HP for each dragon in team, healing effect is unstackable.
Source: Diamond Seal

Same as Cthugha.

[Image: etQtxBu.jpg] Dragoness - Barbara
HP: 3568 | ATK: 949 | RCR: 101 | TC: 10
A1: +90 ATK | A2: +10% ATK column (3) | A3: +500 HP | A4: +10% ATK column (4)
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Dragons' Force (Lv 12, CD 5)
Reduce damage by 10% for each dragon in team for one turn.
Leader: Dragon King's Blood
2× dragon ATK. Heal player's HP by 5% of damage inflicted every turn, capped at 50% of total HP. Damage from active skills will not trigger this effect.
Source: Diamond Seal

Pretty good sub. Useful against very high ATK enemies.

[Image: 6m11Pl6.jpg] Dragon Follower - Honor
HP: 3373 | ATK: 1007 | RCR: 116 | TC: 10
A1: +90 ATK | A2: +10% ATK column (3) | A3: +500 HP | A4: +10% ATK column (4)
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Fight Mode - Light (Lv 10, CD 5)
Convert hearts to light runes.
Leader: Dragon's Claws
3× dragon ATK if six or more connected runes are dissolved.
Source: Diamond Seal

Only use for Honor is to get more dark by using him before Evil Gargoyle. Useless in a Faugn deck since hearts do give dark ATK.

[Image: zrEZXND.jpg] Ao Guang the Lord of Dragon
HP: 4226 | ATK: 1327 | RCR: 39 | TC: 20
Rarity: ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Active: Ocean Injunction (Lv 15, CD 8)
Convert fire runes and hearts to water runes, earth runes to hearts.
Leader: Ire of Dragon King
3× dragon ATK and 2.5× god ATK.
Source: Diamond seal

Not really used as a lead since god/dragon decks have very poor synergy (and gods and dragons each have poor synergy to begin with) although he is useful for converting in mono water dragon decks.

Any dragons that I didn't mention are just stat sticks. No synergy or use whatsoever.

Sample Teams
Dragons of the Abyss

[Image: 4FjHRUE.jpg][Image: hDk7d7d.jpg][Image: uu0RYxf.jpg][Image: TtHjp3G.jpg][Image: 5SiYXbn.jpg][Image: 4FjHRUE.jpg]
HP: 22751 | ATK: 17212+22507 | RCR: 3017 | TC: 70 (Lv 120)
Effects: 4× ATK, +2400 RCR, hearts give 1× dark ATK
Passives: 1.3× ATK for Ursula and Dagon, 1.6× ATK for Novalis and one Faugn

One of the most common decks. It has a good balance of stats. Capable of two turns of burst, with Chernabog's ATK boost on top of Ursula's active. Most cards receive an additional 1.3× ATK too. As long as you can take a hit, you won't die.

Undead Dragons
[Image: hDk7d7d.jpg][Image: uu0RYxf.jpg][Image: TtHjp3G.jpg][Image: Yo5WfPc.jpg][Image: Yo5WfPc.jpg][Image: 8aUtCWm.jpg]
HP: 48176 | ATK: 23337+10266+19536 | RCR: 0 | TC: 55 (Lv 90)
Effects: 2× HP, 6× ATK, -4817 HP every turn and +12% of lost HP healed per heart rune
Passives: 1.6× ATK for Ursula and Dagon

Another very common deck. This is used when large amounts of damage have to be taken. Still pretty good, but you'll have to manage your dark runes well. Also suitable for TC-limit battles by switching all subs with 2* salamanders.

Old School Dragons
[Image: uu0RYxf.jpg][Image: uu0RYxf.jpg][Image: Yo5WfPc.jpg][Image: Yo5WfPc.jpg][Image: 6m11Pl6.jpg][Image: TtHjp3G.jpg]
HP: 20211 | ATK: 13932+6582+18522 | RCR: 482 | TC: 50 (Lv 80)
Effects: 3× ATK, 6× if ≥6 connected on-color runes matched and 5% leech
Passives: N/A

One of the most common decks before PR EDs happened. Tougher but more fun to play. Multiple bursts available. You need to manage your dark runes well though.

Thanks Metacreeper.

One comment regarding the team suggestion for Lunar Sirius Nightmare. I used that team to clear a few times but found that it was difficult to stall in round 1/2. After those stages you just blast through everything .

I eventually settled on PR Faugn + Novalis, Ursula, Dark Golem, PR RGB ED + PR Dagon for farming because you can grind forever in round 1 until everyone is ready. After that, you just need to burst down rounds 8/9 but everything else is quite safe.

This guide can be reserved for compiled startegies for clearing SMs. Should mention about daji ally though, she conpletes dragon team, removing the weakness of low damage and help clear stages that may be impossible otherwise.

What makes dragon so strong is imo it can shift playstyle just by changing leader/ally. Since the thread seems to boast dragon teams i will just put down some average statistics

Dual Faugn
Hp: 22k
Avg dmg: 200-300k
recovery : 13-14k with converter
Burst : 3m

Faugn daji
Hp: slightly above 20k
Avg dmg : 500- 600k
recovery : 10-11k (2 rgb ed)
Burst: 13- 15m

Nidhogg ed
Hp: 40- 50 k
Avg dmg: 200-300k,however frequent case of rune drought
Recovery: untested. Minimum 20k/turn.
Burst : 3m

If I were to say dragon's biggest advantage, its that its super flexible that it can pretty much overcome any possible stages. And with Pr Faugn it makes it so much more easier to play.

Even without Pr ED and nidhogg, I still rate dragon team highly, the old school DS team could probably crush all other stages too with some practice.
