Shiva
#1
So I'm doing a Shiva guide (although I should be updating my Xiahou Dun guide first) because someone asked a few weeks ago for a Shiva guide and I said I would do one so here I am (late though).

Maheśvara - Shiva [Image: 100?cb=20180820100430]:

Leader Skill:
When the Team consists of only Gods and Elves, Team Attack x 4; extend Runestone-moving time by 1 second. By dissolving God or Elf Runestones, Team Attack x 1.5 additionally.

-Doesn't requires elves to work, mono god works.
-Can't use non gods or elves.
-16x base multiplier, easy to get the max multiplier of 36x.
-Lowish max multiplier but the team skill has a rune sharing aspect.
-2 extra seconds is always good.[/spolier]

Active Skill:

Restore all Runestones in black and white to original colors. Tap and explode 2 columns of Runestones to generate Enchanted Water God Runestones.
-One of the only four skills that clears black an white runes (the others are in the other two rares and Nyx).
-Exploding runes is usefull, more so in the fact that you can choose.
-Tap twice the same columns to only explode that column.
-Fully triggers the damage reduction of the team skill.
-Makes 5 or 10 attack runes with a short cd.

Team Skill:
Turn the first 5 Runestones touched while moving into Enchanted God Runestones each round. Types of God Runestones also possess 50% effect of Water Runestones; Damage received -10% for each God Runestone dissolved, to the max -50%
-The pasive god runestone makes activating the full multiplier easy.
-Runestone sharing effect is good and can use any god rune, the passive makes it easy to get the effect.
-Easy to get damage reduction (although sometimes it an take some planning) is great, specially if using elves because they tend to have low hp.

Pros and cons:
+Can use any god member which is a big pool. Elves are nice too!
-Off attribute members don't benefit from the attribute sharing effect nor the leader/ally active skill so it isn't a rainbow so it's more of a water team that can use off attribute members, water members are preferred.
+The water elves pool is surprisingly good because of previous water elves meta tries of Madhead. Limited though
-Some of the better members are rare cards or black platinum cards or quite hard to get.
+Good damage reduction on par with Atlantis when dissolving 5 god runes.
-Needs planing to get the most of the team skill.
+Runestone sharing effect makes up a little for the low multiplier.
-Runestone sharing effect + conversion means you need to do the Daoloth staling method (go back and forth between 2 runes until you moved 5 times).
+Runestone sharing effect affects hearts! Use hearts for attack (What's this an elf team? Well it kinda is?).
-Weakest of the three Hindu gods rares (Brahma being the strongest but hard to spin and Vishnu the easiest to spin strong and can easily use the strong dark AR Zodiacs).
+Race runes are work with attribute sharing effects so that's good!
-That means gods will do more damage than elves.
+Always has attack runes if you want to.
-Can't use Cassandra which works great with elves.
+Easy to keep up Divergence Xi so that offsets the lack of Cassandra.
-Can't stall with damage reduction without doing damage.

General gameplan:

One way to play is to try to get as many non-water attributes in the first five runes to get the most of the rune sharing, another way is to go for the attributes with the most runes and dissolve as many of them to get a good boost to damage. Another is to put Divergence Xi and make sure to dissolve at least one god rune to keep her up.
When needing to stall do the Daoloth stalling method as mentioned before, on the other hand unlike Atlantis Shiva can't use the damage reduction without attacking.

Some notable members:
[Image: latest?cb=20180127091221] Saphire Phantom - Xi  ★★★★★
The best persistent booster for the team, increase main attack runes drop and a good boost, goes well with Varuna.

[Image: latest?cb=20180820100435] Lust for Blood - Varuna ★★★
Better with more gods, make it easier to keep Xi while not using a rune from the team skill so it could be used for more attribute sharing.

[Image: latest?cb=20170731083833] Sultry Fragrance - Andromeda ★★★★★
If you are going to use elves, Andromeda is one of the best elves to put, extra attacks that are easy to keep up and have synergy with the team skill (you want to dissolve other attributes thanks to the share so that gives extra attacks to Andro).

[Image: latest?cb=20180308194738] Stith  ★★★
Convert runes into runes of elves or gods based on the race of the card in that column, I give her 4★ because she can make almost a full board of shared attributes runes but there is at least one column that will not have the sharing effect, more with more elves and while with one elf it isn't likely to be significant, the more elves in the team the higher the chances an attribute isn't affected (does the team passive converts elf runes to god?). Also she is quite hard to get.

[Image: latest?cb=20170619071458] Midnight Lantern - Shuta ★★★
Good stats for an elf, nice short cd active, is ridiculous with Hercules.

[Image: latest?cb=20160627072338] Balance of Worldy Order - Giemsa  ★★★
Great all around, the attribute sharing effect is diluted a little by the team skill. Also brings fireworks.

[Image: latest?cb=20170206115044] Adventurous Traveller of the Sea - Susanoo  ★★★

He makes all runes have 75% the effect of water, again it is diluted by the attribute sharing effect but his cd can be reduced by 3 if there are at least one of each rune type (except heart) on the board so that is a potential cd 5!

[Image: latest?cb=20170815141556] Undying Escorter Hercules ★★★

Sharing effect diluted with the team skill, the active cd reduction is the good part. Goes well with three copies and a Shuta for permanent use of Shuta and cd reduction at the cost of utility.

[Image: latest?cb=20180901072524] Sonata the Follower of the Diva ★★
The extended spin time is nice and the attribute sharing effect while diluted can simplify spinning a lot. Three ★ because the needs of another elf.

[Image: latest?cb=20171117151341] Fountain of Wisdom - Atlantis ★★★★★
Luxury member which is the BEST water mono time tunnel, mostly because it's a 15 seconds time tunnel at cd 8 that gets -1 cd for each water active used (unless it is that Atlantis using his active) just for being in the team. Also a good boost.

[Image: latest?cb=20160125130250]Regretful Vixen Su Daji or [Image: latest?cb=20160125130251]Benevolent Xian Vixen - Su Daji with [Image: 120?cb=20180218152726]Necrofan dragonware ★★★★☆

Yes, it is a luxury member but Daji with her dragon ware brings a passive +1 second spin time that can't be reduced and her active is a time tunnel with damage boost (the 1.5x for dark from the dragonware is wasted though). The fact that 9 runes don't require touching maxes dissolving the board much easier and the time tunnel effect can be used to dissolve the square if push comes to shove.
Generally Benevolent Xian Vixen - Su Daji (divergent form or nvr) is better because the cd is shorter and 10 seconds should be enough for most enemy skills but Regretful Vixen - Su Daji is a better booster for 7 extra cd (with the dragon ware you can use nvr Daji active twice in the time it takes to use ovr Daji active once) in this team though Atlantis is better than Benevolent Xian Vixen - Su Daji.

[Image: latest?cb=20180111102048] Flabby Gulf - Glutunous Slime King ★★
Now for a budget time tunnel the Slime King bring a good 12 seconds at cd 8 which is great, no damage boost but the grouping of heart runes can make a few extra combos and heal.

[Image: latest?cb=20180820100436] Rage of Aversion - Agni ★★★
A common from Shiva seal so kinda budget member(?). The only 2+ turn continuous time tunnel in the game, last 5 turns with a full god team, minimum of 3 turns in this team. No damage boost, short cd and the duration is based on the rune spin time (7 seconds unless there a move time reducing enemy).

[Image: latest?cb=20160919072203] Atrahasis teh Prime Mechanic ★★

Premium time tunnel member just from the investment required! To high cd (cd 10) for an unreliable (in this team unless using Shiva's active) 1.5 water attack when dissolving 6+water runes in a group. Better used as a leader unless you don't have another time tunnel. Other refined Babylons are better not added unless they are the only time tunnel.

[Image: latest?cb=20170731083835] Twisted Fate - Ophiuchus ★★★★

A rare so a little premium member. If you are using ate least one elf it's a great time tunnel at same cd and seconds as Atlantis with a better boost (2x), Atlantis has the advantage of being water and having passive cd reduction.

[Image: latest?cb=20161031132859] Spoon of Limpidity ★★★★

Pretty old and common card can be either a converter or time tunnel with a 1.8x boost so pretty solid.

[Image: latest?cb=20180901072523] Wretched Twins - Bhairava & Nandi ★★
Hey two actives is nice, one is a heart converter (that because heart race runes work kinda like enchanted heart it means extra recovery for elves which already have high recovery) and the other gifts explosions to this annoying skills (frozen and electrified) so it is nice utility. Annoying SM stage though.

[Image: latest?cb=20140622115653] Vepar the Duchess of Maelstrom ★★★★

A remember from the first region locked collab, although it was from a replacement seal of the one with Disney characters it's unknown if she will ever return. She is a cd 12 3 rounds -30% damage shield (it should stack with the -50% from the team skill, not like 50+30% though) with a 70% chance of evading enemy attacks, yep a mini Wukong leader skill for three turns is nothing to scoff at for certain enemies.

[Image: latest?cb=20161031132714] Queen of Blue Butterflies - Sera  ★★★
Even. More. Damage. Reduction.

[Image: latest?cb=20171026154010] Will of the Shriveling - Shyplant ★★★★

Don't get me wrong, she is great with the potential to be used every turn for a permanent extra -50% damage (damage*0.5*0.5 I think it is, not sure though) but she is earth and the damage part is good but not maximized unless playing mostly elves. On the other hand to loss the cd reduction if dissolving 5 god runes every turn the attacks has to be of 32k for a 16k hp if I did the math right.

[Image: latest?cb=20140622092959] Urd, Valkyrie of Memory with Swan Ring Dragonware ★★★★

Best water control skill, 3 turns of that also extends move time by 5 seconds. Passive 1.2x for gods by dissolving 5+ water runes in a group (which Shiva's active easily makes) from dragonware and a good heal when doing 4+ hearts together. Long cd though.

[Image: latest?cb=20180709094748] Yukina ★★★★
Mini Urd as an elf, cc lasts one turn. One turn after using Yukina two times you can use Urd.

[Image: latest?cb=20170810082247] Ignorant Innocence - Delphinus ★★

Don't get me wrong, she is good but she makes an already complicated team to spin even more complicated so that's why she is not the best for Shiva.

[Image: latest?cb=20180720125806] Reflection of Astro Glow - Pupuro ★★★★

If you need to destroy the enemy defense or one shot them, this detective is the one you should hire.

[Image: latest?cb=20160808080232] Jinnie the Exquisite Dancer ★★★★

On the other hand this dancer ignores the enemies defense for two turns and gives a nice 1.5x boost although the defense part has conditions attached.

[Image: latest?cb=20160218151512] Chant of Nothingness - Fylgja ★★★★

Multi hp/revive bosses hate her! Best used against waves where you have to stay more than a turn this deadly singer has excellent stats to complement her  awesome active (her recovery is over 900!).

[Image: latest?cb=20170206115236] Sunlight of Hyuga - Amterasu ★★★★

Cheat death, counterattack through the enemy defenses and have a full attack board! Only downside is that she is fire.

Thanks to Ervid for contributing after using Shiva! Ervid thoughts are a few posts below but here are a two team sugestions from that post:

(10-02-2018, 05:06 AM)Ervid Wrote: My contribution to the thread are these two fairly easiy to get teams based on a mix of theorycrafting and practical experience using Shiva:

Mono god
1. Dual Shiva + Luna + Xian'gu + Parvati + filler

This my favorite setup thus far, since it enhanced every part of Shiva's kit while keeping a very strong offensive power. As for the fifth slot, you can tech whatever you need, be it Valkyrie for unlocking, Sariel for status cleanse, Giemsa or Edward for additional burst, Kubera for additional leader/ally boost and defense, Chaos or Atlantis for utility, Eight Xians utlity cards, etc.

Balanced offence & defense
2. Dual Shiva + Luna + Parvati + Shyplant + Stith

This deck is in theory an extension of what Shiva stands for as a leader. A heavy hitter with constant easy ways of tanking big hits from the enemy, as well as  low cooldown utility and plenty of board explosions among gods and elves alike.

As for mono water teams... eh. Focusing on utility members is better than having several lackluster converters to fit in Varuna. Giemsa and Raphael are a must, as well as Phantom Xi.

Shiva can be strong but I think Varuna and Xi are basically necessary to kind of hodgepodge together a unique gameplay style that solves a lot of problems. Hopefully we'll see more members for him, but 3rd rares are typically swept under the rug.

Needs a water card that generates god runes every rd toogle on top of the 5.  MH worried because race runes eliminate weathered runes, etc.  I say f u to your old azz debuffs that u just stack onto other stupid skills.  Here is another good idea, get off ur but MH and make new skills.

Varuna and posiedin generate water god but u need off color god to make the ts work.

Right now they only help defense.  U can sub an offcolor but then it just kinda works aginst itself.

Shiva has been my go to fun deck lately Tongue I'm convinced he has a lot more potential than people give him credit for. Been running different setups and Shiva is best suited for a mix of off-color gods (and maybe 1 or 2 specific elves). Been running Parvati, Luna and He Xian'gu for a solid core of damage output and extra god runes. Sariel also works outstandingly when in need of effect clearance.

Sadly I don't have Shyplant and Chaos as I've recently started playing again after a long break, so I can't really try them out. But I have to say that Shyplant seems like a perfect fit for a multi color team, even if she is the only elf. Working my way to

Thanks for the contributions! I'm going to add them as quotes for visibility Smile

Now this new patch bring us  the water attributed goddess of water Aqua, which I would argue she is better than Sariel unless running an earth heavy team because both have conditional damage boost on similar cd but a) Sariel is a choose one effect where the second converts away water runes and b) Aqua actually has two skill where the other is a mini Ghroth active (first batch of runes can be dissolved by matching two instead of three) which is quite useful.
